valentine's day, 2068.

dear you,
this post is gonna be a toofer!
that's two-for-one.
so my yesterday:
i did nothing.
seriously.
i sat around the house and watched videos on youtube.
the only productive thing that i did was go to the orphanage for 20 min and take pictures.
i finally have a job: i'm helping lila make a brochure for their new one dollar, one week fundraiser.
i got some mediocre pictures to prove my semi-productiveness.
susmita was the only child, besides infants, at the orphanage because she was sick and couldn't go to school
sulop

4 yr old child with mental disabilities who never stops smiling :)

suntali

sujan

cutest thing i've ever seen! suse

jumuna
there were only a couple "too young for school" children who were in love with the camera and completely adorable.
i was supposed to report the condition of the orphanage too, so i took some pics of that as well.
it wasn't too too bad, but it smelled kinda funky and a good word to describe it would be 'dingy'
well...
'dingy' kinda describes this entire country, but that's beside the point.
one of the boys' room

uniforms
the building was the typical nepali style of skinny with lots of floors.
each floor looked exactly the same.
you can tell everything has been used and used and used, and it's passably clean
so one thumb up!
anyways, the rest of the day i continued to do nothing.
the bride and groom from the wedding came to honor lila and goma as a part of the whole wedding ritual thing
goma is the groom's aunt so that's why they had to come.
and there is my yesterday.
today was much better because it's valentine's day and i got to talk to my love for 2 whole hours!
and i got to open my mystery gift.
at which time i promptly started crying...
i really really miss my family.
days like today and yesterday where i don't have much to do are especially bad because i don't have anything to do except think about how far away i am and how long it will be until i get to see them in person.
this trip has made me realize that although i absolutely adore traveling, it's way more fun when you have someone to share it with.
but please don't take this as complaining, because that is definitely not what is going on here.
anyways, after talking to my love and feasting my eyes on his handsome face
(sorry for the mushy stuff but it's valentine's day so i'm allowed :D)
lila took me with him to his office here and his office in thamel.
there was the cutest fox-looking dog at the office here!

lila talked for a long time at the office and then he generously took me out for pizza!
i got a garlic pizza cuz i'm trying to kill whatever germs are in my nose and throat cuz they're really annoying.

debaki and i gargled salt water this morning, which was mildly entertaining.
she also started frying garlic and chili peppers, which made us all have coughing/sneezing fits.
it sure smelled good though!
tomatoes and garlic, along with the cutest grater ever
curry made of chilis, tomatoes, garlic, fermented spinach, soy beans, and water

and so now here i am, writing it all down again.
it's long, i know, and i'm sorry.
i wish i could attach video cameras to my eyeballs and then show you the interesting parts of my day.
that would be super awesome.
but alas, you're stuck reading this novel i'm writing.
IDEA! i should publish this!
haha no...
i'll stop now :)
love,
me

p.s. if you're wondering about the title, it's the year 2068 here in nepal.
i think it's the 11th month too.
or something like that.
so happy valentine's day from 56 years in the future <3

  1. Hi Michaela,

Enjoying the blog and your updates...

Why so bored? Will you have the opportunity to be working with the school-aged kids soon at the orphanage? Love to see the pics of the little ones!

I like the $1/week fund raising - Who can't afford that?

Hope the excitement level picks up for you - (but not too much!)

    Take Care,

    Kathi & Val
