shameless advertising.

dear you,
here is another blog relating to the organization i'm helping out with.
http://docsfoundationnepal.blogspot.com/
Destitute and Orphan Children Safeguarding Foundation (DOCSF).
it's not a 'this is what i did today' blog, like this one.
more like a 'please help us' blog.
you should check it out :)

THREE of THREE.

dear you,
here's the last in trilogy of long overdue photos.
monday was another wonderful day.
i went over to the orphanage early, like 9 and hung out with the kids for awhile.
usually they would be in school, but there was a teachers' strike or something.
the older ones were complaining about being boring so i asked them if there was somewhere we could go.
and then, presto bingo, after asking permission from lila we were off!
10 of the older kids and i hiked to chovar hill.
boys: inkumar, sanjay, sushan, bishal, raju, bikash.
girls: obsora, coleni, parmila, saru.
it's in view of the orphanage and looks about as big as it does in this picture.
on the top there's a beautiful buddhist monastery which, to my surprise, had only little girls.
they all looked like boys, tho, because they had shaved heads and were all wearing the burgundy robe things.
there's a hill next to this one that we walked over and then came out behind this one.
there was a stinky river and a pretty hindu temple that the kids all went into and came out with tika on their foreheads.

and then came a bazillion stairs.
but the view from the top was so worth it.
we went a longer way down, which was fun.
down a windy road.
past more buddhist temples, where the kids decided to pick all the flowers off the trees.
over a sketchy footbridge.
through a deserted wasteland.
and back to the orphanage.
i took a nap after we got back and then for supper, lila and goma hosted a bunch of the same people who were at the picnic.
a japanese family that he's friends with provided a huge dinner for the kids, which i'm sure they enjoyed immensely
AND he promised to give doscf nepal $500 from his company every month.
quality people right there.
oh!
also, the $1/week fundraiser thing is going well.
i think they're up to almost $500 so far!
good. but we can do better!
anyways, since a picture is worth a thousand words, i'll just upload a bunch instead of pathetically trying to describe the day.
love,
me

TWO of THREE.

dear you,
my saturday was pretty uneventful.
except for the evening when i went to visit the kiddos.
and had my camera stolen again :)

sunday was much more interesting.
firstly, i got skype janu AND alejandra, my friend from western.
THAT was a happy moment.
it was short-lived, tho, because goma came in and said i had to get ready really fast because we were going on a picnic.
an hour later...we still hadn't left.
but when we did, we drove to godawari, which is higher in the surrounding hills.
the picnic grounds were very pretty, and a catering crew was already there waiting for us with loads of food.
we also had music cuz nepalis are VERY resourceful.
computer hooked to speakers hooked to two cardboard boxes with car batteries in them.
PRO.
there was lots of dancing, and i surprised myself by letting them pull me in.
i'm sure i looked like an idiot, but i'm not going to think about that now.
we left the picnic early because we had a wedding reception/party to go to.
it was the party for the wedding goma and lila went to earlier in the week.
we didn't have to leave for awhile tho, so i took a nap :)
sudha let me borrow another beautiful outfit, but unfortunately she is smaller and shorter than me.
i had to put plastic bags on my feet and have debaki yank on the fabric to get it on...
the party was really nice, tho.
so many colorful saris.
these ladies seriously don't know how lucky they are.
there were waiters carrying around many snack-type foods.
fried momos.
fried chicken.
fried fish.
fried veggies.
fried green things.
notice a pattern?
i'm gonna need to fast for the next 3 weeks.
AND there was a normal meal to go along with it.
i almost had to leave early with goma and lila and lina, but sudha convinced them to let me stay later with her and suvash and sumit.
and sudha convinced me to go dance with her.
it was almost like america in that everyone was being crazy and they were playing songs like:
'i'm sexy and i know it' -lmfao
'yeah' -usher
'we found love' -rihanna
'sexyback' -justin timberlake
but they also played a song that everyone in nepal seems to love.
i heard it at the picnic too.
go on youtube and type in 'simple simple kanchhiko.mp4'
and then click on the first video.
BEST. SONG. EVER.
getting home, the three of us on suvash's motorcycle was a little sketchy but we made it.
then goma and i spent 20 minutes trying to get my stupid trouser things off.
and that was the end to a great day :)
here's pics to prove it.
love,
me

first view of the himalayas!
on to the wedding reception.
